After years of negotiations, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for stakeholders in the garment industry, with Australia willing to change its stance on the Textile agreement.
Executive member of the Textile Clothing and Footwear Council, Mark Hallabe, has revealed to Village news that Australia will change the rules of origin, which will enable Fiji to increase the products which can be exported.
Hallabe also confirms that there are some conditions set out before the green light is given to reduce the rule of origin which includes the training of Customs Officials to be able to identify whether a product is made in Fiji or just assembled for sale.
He said they are working with relevant stakeholders to meet the set out requirements before December.
