A Gale force warning remains in force for Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, Lomaiviti group, Yasawa and Mamanuca group as tropical cyclone Gene is currently passing over Nadi.

The Nadi weather Office confirms that Tropical Cyclone Gene was located about 20 kilometers South-Southeast of Nadi at around 10:30 last night and is moving Southeast at around 23 kilometers per hour.

Tropical cyclone Gene is expected to intensify slowly as it moves over the waters off the coast of Nadi later this morning. Close to its center Tropical cyclone Gene has winds of upto 75 km/hr with momentary gusts of upto 140 km/hr and winds close to its center is expected to increase to upto 80km/hr within the next 6 hours.

On its current track tropical cyclone Gene is expected to be to the Southwest coast of Viti Levu by midday today with a flash flood warning in force and flooding of rivers and creeks expected in Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, Lomaiviti group, Yasawa and Mamanuca group.
