The chiefly Vanua of Lalagavesi in Cakaudrove said that traditional protocol must take place first before the interim Minister for Indigenous Affairs and the Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) consults the chiefs to join the GCC caucus.

Speaking on behalf of Tui Cakau's Household, Ratu Jekesoni Yavalanavanua said although the actions taken by Ratu Epeli Nailatikau to visit the chiefs is positive, the hurt is still there amongst the ousted members of the Great Council of Chiefs.

Ratu Yavalanavanua highlighted that a "Matanigasau" should be presented to the chiefs first before the interim government invites them back to the GCC meeting table.

Meanwhile, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau earlier stated that he has now started his own consultations with various Chiefs around the country who continue to oppose the formation of the new look GCC, to try and convince them to come onboard.

Also, interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama will consult the chiefs on the path of the interim government and he will also explain to them the recent High Court Ruling and what it now means for them.

This meeting is scheduled for the 9th and 10th of next month.
