Families who have been affected by the Vatukoula Gold Mine closure can expect further assistance in the new year.

Chief Executive of the Save the Children Fund Chandra Shekar said their school assistance programme will continue in the first couple of weeks of Term one.

Shekar said they have managed to secure more funding from their New Zealand donors and they will be able to provide more assistance to families who are finding it hard to send their children to school.

Shekar added this time assistance will be through school provisions as there isn't a guarantee that money given in the past has always been used properly.
