Funeral for 3 sisters killed in Koronivia fire to be held today
Their grieving father Umesh Prasad said he is still trying to accept the fact that his daughters are no longer with him.
Prasad said out of five children he is now left with a son and a two year 8 month old daughter.
He hopes no one else faces a similar situation as it is painful to bear.
Prasad told Fijivillage that he could have saved his daughters if he had not panicked.
8 year old Shiral Prasad died at the scene, while 16 year old, Shayal Shivika Prasad and 13 year old Shinal Prasad died on Monday, after suffering 85% burns.
Their funeral will take place today at 1pm at Raralevu cemetery.
Meanwhile with 14 structural fires occurring this year mainly in informal settlements, the National Fire Authority has raised concerns as these homes are not insured.
Acting CEO Aseri Radrodro said as insurance does not cover those in informal settlements home fire safety should be a high priority.
He said there is an urgent need for people to be cautious especially with the homes completely destroyed in separate fire incidents in Nasinu and also Koronivia Nausori which claimed the lives of 3 sisters.
Police are also reminding the public to be cautious when using candles, kerosene, lanterns and mosquito coils.
