While there are programs in place to help Fiji become self-sufficient, the Interim Prime Minister said there are still fundamental problems that we are facing.

Addressing the High Level Conference on Food Security in Rome on Friday, Commodore Bainimarama said almost all out programs and initiatives are confounded by a lack of production which is a result from insufficient planting material.

He said we will need assistance in improving propagation techniques and resources and in monitoring new crops and seeing whether or not they are suitable to Fiji's climate.

Bainimarama also adds we need assistance in helping our farmers make their professions meaningful income generating enterprises through training in running small businesses.

He said this will help Fiji make like in rural areas more attractive and ease the burdens on Fiji's urban infrastructures.
