Fulton College given eviction notice
This has been confirmed in a press release from the Yavusa Salatu who say that a decision was made at a meeting held on Saturday the 29th, to issue the eviction notice to the Australasian Conference Association Limited (ACAL), the operators of Fulton College at its office in Tamavua.
This is in light of the frustration felt by the landowners at the delaying tactics of the Native Land Trust Board and the ACAL in getting their appeal heard by the Fiji Court of Appeal.
The appeal was to be made after a court decision in July 2007 was made agreeing that the NLTB had failed to obtain the consent of the landowners of the Yavusa Salatu, before granting a lease to ACAL back in 1975, and thus had required the NLTB to obtain the landowners consent accordingly.
The Yavusa Salatu have stated that ACAL are taking advantage of the delay and plan to stay on in Fulton College until the end of 2008.
The landowners have also mentioned that there is a lack of confidence in the NLTB General Manager, Semi Tabakanalagi.
Tabakanalagi and ACAL officials are expected to comment later.
