The Interim Prime Minister has out rightly condemned the temple sacrileges carried out over the weekend in Nausori as one of irresponsible and criminal in nature.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama said he is deeply concerned with the acts and has directed the Police Commissioner to carry out a full investigation into the matter.

He has ordered that people who are responsible for it should face the full brunt of the law as the interim government will do everything possible to charge those responsible for it.

Commodore Bainimarama said that Fiji is a multi-racial and multi-cultural country and people should learn to respect each other’s cultures and traditions.

He said sacrilege is the misuse of or disrespect shown to something sacred which is a criminal offence.

He said his government does not condone and condemns these acts of abuse of worship places and sympathizes with the communities which have suffered at the hands of these offenders.

The Kali Mata Mandir in Korociriciri, Sanatan Ramayan Mandir and the Nag Baba Kuti in Raralevu were broken into on Saturday night and the thieves then tried to burn down the storeroom of the Nag Baba Kuti.
