Fuel increase will seriously affect people-NFP
National Federation Party's General Secretary Pramod Rae said the huge increase in fuel prices from today will seriously affect ordinary people.
Rae said never before in Fiji's history has the price of fuel risen to $2.05 per litre and $1.57 for Kerosene, which will have a devastating impact on the economy, ruining the livelihoods of thousands of ordinary workers and farmers.
Rae is calling on the Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry to make it his immediate priority, to reduce import duty from the present 45 percent to a reasonable level, as he was critical of the Laisenia Qarase government when fuel prices experienced a sharp increase in 2004 and 2005.
He said people in the rural areas are going to feel the pinch especially those who use kerosene for their daily cooking.
According to Rae people can now also expect further increases in fuel surcharge, in electricity bills.
