In 1976 the first Marist 7s had six cartons of beer with six teams taking part, with the tournament now growing to a total prize money of $35,000 with 76 teams taking part from this Friday.
Marist Rugby Club President Lawrence Tikaram said this year some teams have been disappointed even before the tournament has started.
The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s pools have been drawn today.
The Digicel Fiji Babaas has been drawn in Pool 16 alongside Tribe Fusion, Burenitu Votua and Post Fiji Crusaders.
Wardens Gold is in pool 9 with Naculava, Vunimono and Shipping Service Stallions.
Defending champion, Army Green is in pool 1 with Bennet Exile Rugby, Concrete Solutions 1 and Covenant Brothers Red.
After the round robin pool matches, the top two teams of each of the 16 Pools will then have to survive two rounds of eliminations to qualify for the Cup Quarterfinals.
The Marist 7s kicks off at 8am Friday, with Army Green meeting Bennet Exile Rugby.
