French sevens coach Frederic Pomarel is only half joking when he suggests there could be a repeat of the Rugby World Cup final at this weekend’s Wellington sevens.

Times are changing and three months after Les Bleus’ 8-7 loss at Eden Park, the theater of a sevens rematch with New Zealand at Westpac Stadium is not completely out of the question.

Pomarel said the President of the French Rugby Federation has called him and said it is very important to play well in New Zealand.

He added the dream would be to play New Zealand in the final again.

Fifth on the series standings, France have earned top seeding in Pool D ahead of Australia, Canada and Kenya.

A New Zealand-France showdown could come as early as the quarter finals if the French finish second in their pool and the Kiwis top Pool A.

Fiji will play Argentina at 12.44pm in their first pool match and they will take on Tonga at 3.40pm in the second pool match.

Fiji will play Wales at 8.12pm in its last pool match.
