The worry of ensuring their copra reaches Suva or Savusavu without being damaged or lost is a thing of the past for the people of Koro, and it could be the same for other islands such as Gau.
Vilimone Vosarogo of the Department of Energy said with plans to set up similar bio-diesel projects on the island of Gau and Lau one of the major benefits of the project is that villagers will not have to send their copra to Suva and they will be able to fetch a higher price also considering there will not be any transportation costs.
Vosarogo said the people of Koro have been experiencing this benefit since the opening of the bio-diesel project in March.
Meanwhile Primary Industries Minister Joketani Cokanasiga revealed that there are also plans to open a bio-diesel project in Gau.
