A 26-year-old Sri Lankan National charged with giving false information to a public servant and in being possession of fake documents appeared in Nadi court today.

It is alledged that Ramanand Kalapati Pillay used a fake Canadian passport of Vijikaran Savamesan to travel to New Zealand.

Pillay told the court that he had bought the passport from an agent in Malaysia. He was on a connecting flight from Sri Lanka to New Zealand and was caught by officials.

A check was made with the embassy and it was found that the passport and the documents were correct however the photo pasted on the passport was not his. He has been remanded in custody and wil be deported to Sri Lanka on Saturday. He has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and suspended for 12 months.
