France forward Karim Benzema put on a sterling performance as he scored a goal to help France beat Switzerland 5-2 in their second pool match of the FIFA World Cup.

The win has seen France top the Group E pool and is likely to meet the runners up from Group F which is either Argentina, Iran or Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica produced another huge upset to reach the knockout stages for the first time in 24 years after beating Italy 1-nil this morning.

A goal from Bryan Ruiz which also ensured England was eliminated at the group stages for the first time since 1958.

Costa Rica top the group with six points, having already beaten Uruguay in their first game, while Italy is second with three points and now need at least a draw from their final game against Uruguay, to go through on goal difference.

Coasta Rica is likely to face Colombia or Ivory Coast in the knockout stages.
