France, S/Africa out, Mexico, Uruguay in
Although South Africa defeated France 2-1 this morning it was not enough to see them through to the next round.
France with most of their senior players out of this game failed to show any form which they were re-known for in the past tournament.
Meanwhile, Uruguay finished top of Group A thanks to a hard-fought 1 nil win over Mexico, but the defeat was ultimately sufficient to join their conquerors in the Round of 16.
Joint leaders Uruguay and Mexico went into their final group match safe in the knowledge that a draw would be enough for both of them to reach the knockout phase.
But it was a must win for the Mexicans if they were to avoid a likely encounter with the formidable Argentinians in the last 16.
Uruguay led 1-nil at half-time and both sides opted to play safe football in the second half knowing that the score line will be enough to see both side go through to the second round of competition.
Despite enjoying more possession of the ball, Mexico failed to find a way through as Uruguay completed a hat trick of clean sheets for the first time in their FIFA World Cup history.
Games in progress, Argentina and Greece are locked nil all and in other game South Korea leading Nigeria 2-1.
