The Pacific Forum is appealing to the interim government to allow New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters into the country next month.

Stuff News reported that in March in Auckland, Peters had made it known that he will be leading a ministerial contact group into the country next month.

However, interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama had informed the forum chair that Fiji will no longer be participating in the meetings.

Forum Chairman and Tongan Prime Minister, Doctor Feleti Sevele said he wants channels between the 16 nation group and Fiji kept open.

He adds that he has written to Commodore Bainimarama asking that the contact group be allowed in the country adding that this will be an excellent oppurtunity for Commodore Bainimarama and his cabinet to have full and frank exchanges with several senior foreign ministers of the forum including Winston Peters and Australia's Stephen Smith.
