Former bank teller charged with larceny
Makarita Riam-Kau is alleged to have stolen $36,000 cash from the ANZ Sales and Service Suspense Account on 10th July last year.
The court heard that Riam-Kau stole the money from the account and it was later caught on a CCTV camera inside the bank.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Leone Lautabui says on the 1st September the matter was reported by an ANZ investigator after the money was found missing from the Suspense Account.
Lautabui said Police and ANZ Management on the 11th September, went to the house of the accused and found $20,000 inside her wardrobe.
The money has been recovered and given back to the bank while Riam-Kau has since been terminated.
She will be sentenced on the 8th of next month.
Meanwhile, two former Security guards from MH Superfresh in Tamavua pleaded guilty to charges of theft before Magistrate Makereta Mua today.
The court heard that Timoci Driso and Aisea Delai of Savutalele, Tacirua stole 10 cartons of beer between April and May this year while on duty.
In mitigation, Driso told the court he is the sole breadwinner and supports his wife and two children and promised not to reoffend while Delai who is single had the same sentiments.
The two will be sentenced on the 14th July, 2010.
