A former bank officer, Sakiusa Tanoa has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Justice Ajmal Gulab Khan after being found guilty of 50 counts of larceny by servant.

Justice Khan taking into account that this is the first offence by Tanoa and his guilty plea and without calling any witnesses, said that the sentencing will be a deterrent against any other would-be offenders as banks are holders of people's money.

The Court heard that from December last year right up until July this year, Tanoa took close to $90 000 and forged the bank statements to ensure that no anomalies arose.

In his plea, Tanoa sought the mercy of the Courts as he is the sole bread winner in his family and that he supports 4 children.

The Court also heard that none of the missing money had been recovered.
