A former bank officer was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment by the Chief Magistrate Ajmal Ghulab Khan today after he pleaded guilty to 137 counts of forgery, uttering false documents and obtaining money, goods and services for a total of $112,000.

24 year old Myron Williams between June to December last year while working for Colonial National Bank pretended to be the owner of two cards by forging the pin numbers on the forms and fraudulently used it to obtain cash from various outlets in Suva, Nadi, Namaka and Lautoka.

Chief Magistrate Khan told the accused that he had breached the trust of his former employer by using the knowledge gained as a bank teller for his own benefit.

He said a custodial sentence is appropriate in this case as a deterrent to others.
