A former Revenue Collector of the Lands Department pleaded guilty to larceny by servant, a charge brought against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Inosi Vodo told Magistrate Ropate Cabelawa that although his own lawyer was not present in court, he would be represented by another lawyer Eliki Gaunavou from Nadi.

Cabelawa cautioned the accused about taking a plea without the presence of his lawyer however Vodo said that he had already consulted his lawyer on the guilty plea.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Elenoa Leweni read the summary of facts which stated that Vodo had between 9th and 10th July 2008, stolen $1286.51 in cash which he had received in payment for Crown land rent.

She informed the court that the accused was in remand and he could be put on bail awaiting sentence.

However, prosecution asked the court to impose strict bail conditions to which the court agreed.

He was released on $500 bail with conditions.

The case has been adjourned to the 26th of next month for mitigation and sentencing.
