A former parliamentarian in the Peoples Coalition government, Suruj Mati Nand said the decision to stop all investigations and close the files of the 2000 coup is a slap on the face of all coup victims.
Nand said they are still crying for justice.
Meanwhile, the President of Fiji Retailers Association Himmat Lodhia said all the business people who lost almost everything in the looting and burning still want to know who all were actually behind the coup eight years ago.
These comments come after police confirmed yesterday that all the investigations in relation to the 2000 coup are now closed.
Manager Major Crime, SP Luke Navela who was leading the investigations told Fijivillage that the files are now closed and no further investigations will be conducted into the upheavals of May 2000. He said that some prominent people were also investigated however due to insufficient evidence, no charges were laid.
