Former Navy Commander, Francis Kean today pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the Suva High Court this morning.

Kean who was earlier charged with murder has the charge reduced to Manslaughter this morning and pleaded guilty after the summary of facts were read to him.

The facts being that on the night of the 31st of December 2006 at Interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama's daughter's wedding at the Royal Suva Yacht Club, Kean punched and kicked John Whippy, the uncle of the groom after a heated argument.

Whippy, was then taken to the CWM Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Earlier this morning, Judge Justice Gerrard Winter accepted the application to grant leave to Kean's former legal counsel, Abhay Singh who was yesterday terminated by Kean, and today replaced by Lautoka lawyer, Haroon Ali Shah.

Kean will be sentenced by Judge Justice Gerrard Winter next Thursday at 11am.
