Former Nasinu Mayor a free man
Judge Justice Daniel Gounder while delivering his ruling on the no case to answer application made by lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry of Former Nasinu Mayor Rajeshwar Kumar and Town Clerk Jaswant Kumar, stated that he labelled the actions of Rajeshwar Kumar as negligence for not following up on where the cheques were paid to, however the Judge said he did not see this as abuse of office but simple negligence.
Judge Gounder added that he believed the Former Nasinu Town Mayor believed that the cheque was going to be used for the purpose of payment to Post Fiji.
Judge Gounder however found that the second accused former Town clerk Jaswant Kumar did have a case to answer as he was in the position of handling the cheque and ensuring that payment was made to the allocated receiver.
Jaswant Kumar's trial will continue on Monday where he will have to face trial for abuse of office and embezzlement charges.
