The Fiji Mine Workers Union said the laid off mine workers should look for employment elsewhere.
General Secretary Kavekini Navuso said these workers have accepted the redundancy packages and they should not rely on the government and NGOs for more help. He also said that they should not be encouraged to stay and hope for the mine to reopen.
He added that he visited the ex-mine workers over the weekend to enquire about problems faced by them and the reply he received was that everything is fine.
