A Former Fiji citizen was been jailed for three years by the Brisbane District court yesterday after being found guilty of causing grievous harm on a 28 year old man.

30 year old Sitiveni Kabulevu Cakacaka pleaded guilty to his charge of grievous bodily harm. The court was told that he attended the Mercury nightclub in Brisbane in the early hours of 26th January, 2007 where a dance battle was underway.

Cakacaka hit Henry Faalili who was taking part in the dance battle and began kicking and stomping on his head until he was unconscious. The court was told that Faalili received serious injuries and that Cakacaka believed that Faalili had touched his sister's head which was insulting which is why he bashed him up.

While sentencing Cakacaka, judge Justice John Newton said although he believes his sister was insulted however his attack on a stranger has no explanation. The Court also heard that Cakacaka has since received anger management counselling, is remorseful for his actions and is offering to pay full compensation for medical costs.

Cakacaka will be eligible for parole on December 18 this year.
