The Fiji School Leaving Certificate History currently being taught at schools is under review.

The members of the Fiji Islands History Association yesterday met to discuss, examine and review the syllabus.

University of the South Pacific History and Politics Senior Lecturer, Dr Morgan Tuimalealiifano said the current syllabus taught in schools at the form five and six levels were prescribed in 1960 adding teachers who are currently teaching the subject, were also taught the same syllabus.

He also said that the aim of the workshop was to revise, update and bring new information that students need to enhance their knowledge and further studies at tertiary level.

He also said that students need relevant information about their history such as the events in 1987 and 2000 and the materials currently in place were published in the 50's and 60's.

Dr Morgan said the only problem is what to take out and what to leave in place to make history more interesting to be learnt and taught.
