The Magistrate’s Court trial against three men charged with allegedly being in possession of a forged 50 million Euro overseas bank draft got underway this morning.

The defense and DPP lawyer handed in a list of agreed facts to Magistrate Amani Rokotinaviti after which a businessman, Pravi Ratan, took the witness stand and revealed that he was trying to secure a small loan for the three accused, Poh Ching Sheu, Rajnesh Singh and Atunaisa Veitata.

Rattan revealed that he was given a copy of the 50 million euro back draft as assurity for the small loan, however, considering the large amount, he had doubts and took it to the Westpac Bank to verify its authenticity.

He said the Bank was not able to verify if the overseas bank draft was genuine and requested the original document which he did not have.

The witness said he then backed off from trying to secure a small loan for the three accused.

The three are alleged to have presented the 50 million euro bank draft to the ANZ Bank to try and bank it and use the money for a business venture.

The case continues this afternoon.
