Forensic Samples to be Sent Overseas
Shavneet's aunt Shobna Sharma confirms she met with Police Commissioner, Commodore Esala Teleni yesterday, and today she was told that a CID officer will be taking the sample over.
The Permanent Secretary for Health Dr Lepani Waqatakirewa said the matter is now in the hands of police now. He said been a criminal case, this aspect of the investigations now belong to the police department and the ministry has no control over the time and process involved.
He said as directed by the Public Service Commission, an independent medical investigation team has submitted two volumes report to PSC in which it has been made clear that Shavneet's forensic samples will be taken to Australia for analysis by the police.
He also stressed that the ministry did not attempt to mislead or lie about the sample analysis in Australia to PSC and it does not have anything to hide. According to Dr Lepani, release of patient’s medical information is safeguarded by law and the findings of the investigation team to the public will only be undertaken if the provision of the law is followed and adhered to.
