The Permanent Secretary for Information and Military spokesperson Major Neumi Leweni said foreign media representatives are most welcome to visit Fiji under the current Public Emergency Regulation.

Leweni said what is important is for them to understand Fiji's situation and to report accurately and responsibly.

He said the procedure now is that foreign media representatives firstly apply to the Permanent Secretary for Information specifically stating the reason and the dates of their visit.

The Permanent Secretary will then endorse the applications based on how the foreign media representatives have reported about Fiji in the past, if they have, or on the undertaking that they will report accurately and responsibly.

Leweni said journalists who have been deported breached their visa conditions and would not be allowed back into the country.
