Fiji's Foreign Affairs Ministry is still trying to confirm the reports from NZ based radio station, Radio Apna that eight Fijians have passed away following the earthquake in Christchurch.

Permanent Secretary, Solo Mara said the Fiji High Commission in Wellington is still verifying the information with the hospital officials and an official statement is expected later this afternoon.

Radio Apna said that it stands by its's report in relation to the death of the eight Fijians at Wellington Hospital.

Radio Apna General Manager, Mohammed Shaiyaz said that the report has come from the doctors at the Wellington Hospital who are dealing with the cases from Christchurch.
