DJ Forbes is stepping down as the New Zealand Sevens team captain.
The long serving skipper wants to hand over the leadership responsibilities to get his body and game in shape for the Rio Olympics.
Forbes said he came to his decision after much reflection and discussions with coach Gordon Tietjens.
The 33-year-old said his key focus is on getting his body to 100 percent.
Forbes made his debut for All Blacks Sevens team in 2006.
Coach Gordon Tietjens will name a successor to Forbes shortly when the initial squad for the 2015/16 season is announced later this month.
Forbes has won 6 Sevens World Series titles and two Commonwealth Games gold medals.
He was IRB International Sevens Player of the Year in 2008 and the New Zealand Sevens Player of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2014.
