The Food Symposium on Food Security and Export Led Growth for Resource Based sectors will be held today at the Novotel Convention Centre, Lami.

It will be officially opened by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama this morning.

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Col Mason Smith said statistics show the growth in the agriculture sector has been slow and the Prime Minister wants to drive the recovery of Fiji's economy through this sector.

He stresses the objective is to develop an action oriented approach to capitalize on opportunities in Fiji's resource based sectors.

According to Smith the Food Symposium is designed to review the past performance of the agriculture sector including sub sectors within the agriculture realm.

The symposium programme will include six working groups to discuss the Sugar industry, Livestock and dairy, Fruits and vegetables, Root crops, Fisheries and Forestry.

The symposium starts at 8 o=clock this morning.
