All the food retail outlets that sell raw meat and poultry products have been warned to see that the product is packed properly.

The Health Ministry will be policing and monitoring the sale of the same and will take appropriate action where necessary as per Food Safety Regulations 2009.

Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma warns that actions that could be taken include the removal of the product from the shop for condemnation and legal action with a minimum fine of $2000.

Other food products that will be now monitored closely include Bread, sandwiches and salads as all bread sold will now have to be packaged and must have the baked on date written on it.

All sandwiches, salads and similar ready to eat products have to be under temperature control and have to observe the 2 and 4 hour rule.

The ministry is advising all the retailers to adhere to the rules as the Food Regulation 2009 is now effective.
