The Interim Minister for Provincial Development confirms that food rations are now on its way to the people on Cikobia Island who have been badly affected by Hurricane Daman.
Speaking to Village News, Interim Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau confirms that initial reports provided to him shows that cost of damage is huge and his officials are still compiling their reports.
He said those in need will be provided with emergency food rations.
Ratu Epeli Ganilau has also raised concern that some people did not take heed of the hurricane warning provided to them which is one of the major factor as to why many houses have been blown away.
Red Cross Divisional Service Manager in Labasa Victor Kisun also said they are currently putting plans together to send emergency supplies to the island. They will reveal more details in the next hour.
