Prices of various food items went down last month which saw consumers paying less for these items.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, the prices of cereals, fresh fish, fruit, yaqona, oil, tea, milo, imported carrot, okra, potatoes and blue peas went down by 0.6 percent.

People also had to pay less for alcohol and tobacco which went down by 0.1 percent.

However, consumers had to fork out more money for duty free goods, jewellery, travel, heating, lighting and housing.

Consumers also had to pay more for new vehicles, petrol, new tyres and spare parts which increased by 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate for last month was 6.6 percent compared to 5.4 percent last year.
