Police have warned motorists to refrain from breaking the road rules as it only will harm them.

Divisional traffic officer western Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Raju confirmed they booked a total of 253 drivers in the Western Division for breaking the road rules over the weekend.

Raju added that 20 people were taken into custody and later charged with drunk driving.

Raju said the increasing number of road fatalities is due to the negligence of road users.

Raju has also confirmed that a motorist has been charged with official corruption after he allegedly tried to bribe ASP Raju when he was caught speeding.
