The Fiji Bank Finance Sector Unions said proper discussions and consultations should be done as Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has directed the FDB to come up with its "Strategic Plan for 2009-2011” and assist the agricultural and rural sectors.
Finance Sector Union General Secretary Pramod Rae said the directive is fine with the union, but proper guidelines need to be followed so as not to affect the operations of FDB.
Rae said they will have a meeting next week to make sure that union members are not affected by the changes at the FDB.
Chaudhry said in the past decades, the bank was concentrating more on real estate loans and private sector business entities and it is time to move away from it. He has issued the challenge that the FDB will now have to look at areas like agriculture, fisheries and forestry to assist them.
