The Flying Fijians lost to Scotland 37-25 in a hard fought battle yesterday at Churchill Park.

It was a gutsy performance by a young Fiji side but it was not enough to match a much stronger Scottish outfit.

Winger Tim Visser marked his debut with a pair of tries while fly half Greig Laidlaw scored 22 points.

Josefa Domolailai got the first try for Fiji in the first half while 7's reps Metuisela Talebula and Waisea Nayacalevu also scored a try each.

However it was Visser's second try in the 72nd minute that took the sting out of a Fiji fight back after rallying from 24-11 down at half time to just a two point deficit with 12 minutes remaining.

Captain, Netani Talei said he is proud of his players who played hard against an experienced side.

Meanwhile, Scotland flyhalf, Greig Laidlaw said the Fijians put them under pressure numerous times.

Fiji's focus will now shift to Tonga in next Saturday's Pacific Nations Cup that will also be held at Churchill Park.
