In their second Pacific Nations Cup encounter, Fiji came back from a 28-nil start to finally beat Tonga 41-38 in a nail biting encounter this afternoon.
Though trailing in the start which saw the Ikale Tahi side run in a total of three tries in the first fifteen minutes of play in the first half to lead 28-7, Fiji fought back in the second half retaining majority of possession.
Flying Fijian Captain, Dominiko Waqaniburotu who also scored a try said that the boys were told during the break to give it their best shot and aim for nothing less than a win.
Meanwhile, Ikale Tahi Captain Aliki Latui said they were not expecting to lose adding defense was their downfall.
Fiji took the lead in the second half after scoring two tries in the dying fifteen minutes of play while Tonga were left handicapped as one of their players was sin-binned.
This is Fiji's second win over Tonga in the four year history of the Pacific Nations Cup.
Fiji will take on Samoa next Sunday in Samoa.
In the other game played this afternoon, Japan had an impressive outing this afternoon beating Samoa 23-31.
Samoa who were favourites to win were stunned with the loss however Japan Coach John Kirwan said that his boys made him really proud after coming off a loss to Fiji last weekend.
Looking at the points table, the Flying Fijians lead with nine points after bagging a bonus point from their victory over Tonga, in second place equal is Japan and Samoa on Four points each.
