The Flying Fijians will have to lift their performance if they are to beat Australia A in the IRB Pacific Nations Cup match this weekend.

Fiji fought back from a 9-3 half time deficit to beat rapidly improving Japan 24-12 in Tokyo last night.

Team coach Ilivasi Tabua said after the match that he will still have to work on certain areas to make sure no mistakes are made while playing against Australia A this Sunday in Brisbane.

Tabua said although they played good rugby against Japan in the second spell, he was still not that happy with the performance in the first half.

Sireli Naqelevuki, Taniela Rawaqa and Vereniki Goneva were the try scorers for the Flying Fijians. Rawaqa converted all the three tries and also kicked a penalty in their 24-12 victory.

Meanwhile in other IRB Pacific Nations Cup matches yesterday Australia A thrashed Tonga by 90 points to 7 and New Zealand Maori beat Samoa 17-6.

Australia A leads the points standings with 13 points while New Zealand Maori is in second place with 12 points and Flying Fijians in third with 10 points.
