Residents of Navua are being urged to take precautions now as the Nadi Weather office predicts that the Navua river would burst its banks in the next few hours.
Speaking to Fijivillage news just moments ago, Director Rajendra Prasad said the water level in the river has risen dramatically and is expected to continue to rise. He said flooding in Navua is expected later today.
Prasad also confirms that heavy rain is expected for Nausori with flash floods also possible in the Nausori, Korovou and Tailevu areas today.
Prasad stresses that a weak trough of low pressure has moved over the group and the current weather is not due to Tropical Cyclone Hettie which is moving away from Fiji.
Navua Police have confirmed that Naitonitoni and Tokotoko back road are under one feet of flood waters while the Raiwaqa bridge in Navua is also flooded but the roads are still open to traffic.
