The Vatukoula gold mines are facing major difficulties in getting operations back on track as all the mine shafts remain flooded.
General Manager Burt Leatly told Fijivillage that it will take months to clear out all the water from the mines as the floods in January has made the situation worse.
He also confirms that plans to hire another 300 workers are delayed because of this. However, despite the setback, gold extraction continues from the higher levels of the mine shafts in Vatukoula.
