Flood waters rising again
Police have imposed a curfew in Ba Town from this morning as flood waters have again entered the main street.
Ba Mayor Praveen Bala said the town is completely closed and people should not go into town.
Bala said police officers won't allow anyone to enter the town.
Flood waters at Nadi Town continue to rise and only bigger vehicles can cross the flooded main street to get to the either side of town.
Nadi Mayor Timoci Koroiqica has called on motorists not to take the risk in trying to cross Nadi Town.
Nadi Police confirm the Nadi Back Road is still closed to all traffic as there is 6 feet of water covering the road.
Kings Road closed
The Kings Road remains closed as the Naqali Bridge is flooded.
Deputy Director Operations Superintendent of Police Erame Raibe has ordered all punts transporting people at the Naqali Bridge crossing to refrain from doing so for safety reasons.
Works Ministry releases update report
The latest update report on adverse weather effects on road conditions has been received from the Works Ministry.
In the Western Division in Nadi, the Nadi Back Road at the Town end is under 2.5m of water and is closed to all traffic, also closed is the Narewa Road Junction on the Queens Road which is under 1.5m of water.
In Lautoka, the Vuda Back Road is under 0.5m of water and is closed to all traffic, also closed is the Lomolomo Flats which is under 0.3m of water.
In Ba, the Wailailai Flats is under water and is closed to all traffic.
In Rakiraki, the FSC Road is under 1m of water and is closed to all traffic, closed as well is the bus stand in Vaileka Town while the Kings Road at the Rakiraki Police Post is under 0.4m of water and is open only to 4WD vehicles.
In Tavua, water at the Nabuna Flats at Yaladro and Nadarivatu has receded, however, it is still closed to all traffic.
In Nadroga, Kavaganasau Road, Yalava Flat is under 0.5m of water and is closed to all traffic, Valley Road, Laselase Bridge washout, closed to all traffic, Nasau Road, Lawai Crossing under water and is closed to all traffic, Natadola Beach Road underwater before wooden bridge, closed to all traffic.
In the Central/Eastern Division, in Nayavu, Waisomo Construction Area, Naqia Crossing, Baleinaga Crossing and Nayavu Bridge are covered in flood waters and are closed to all traffic.
In Naqali, the Sawani/Serea Road, Naqali Bridge is under 3.5m of water and is closed to all traffic, also closed is the Muaniweni Flats.
In Korovou, Kings Road, Wairuku Bridge and Wailotua Flats are underwater and are closed to all traffic.
In Rewa, Toga Road, Toga Crossing is underwater and is closed to all traffic while the Bau Tikina Junction has fallen trees, open only to single lane traffic with drivers to take care.
Water cuts expected
Water Cuts are expected for residents in the areas of Tovata, Makoi, Valelevu, Khalsa Road, Newtown, Tacirua and the greater Cunningham areas.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Ministry of Works spokeswoman Sainiana Waqainabete said that this is due to the fallen power line in Sawani this morning.
Waqainabete said that the engineers are working hard to restore water in your various households.
Meanwhile, water carting will be carried out to areas that are currently facing water cuts at the moment.
In the West, Lautoka, 60% of water supply is being affected in Ba.
This is all due to no power supply from last night and the engineers are trying their best to solve the problem and are asking the public to please bear with them as the flooding situation worsens.
Prepare now – Commissioner Central
The Commissioner Central Division has issued a warning to all those living in low areas to take precautions now as heavy rain continues in the Central Division.
Mosese Tikoitoga said at the moment in a number of places, bridges and roads are closed while there is a landslide at Malabi.
Tikoitaga said those living in low lying areas should listen to the latest weather reports and if rain continues, then they should move to higher ground with essentials.
More rain – Weather Boss
The Nadi Weather Office said to expect more rain and strong winds this weekend with a trough of low pressure moving closer to Fiji.
Nadi Weather Office director Rajendra Prasad said people need to take precautions now and next week.
