Flood waters rise again
Resident Simadri Narayan said he has just returned from surveying the town area and confirms that there is still knee high water in the lower areas of Rakiraki town.
Flood waters rose rapidly in Rakiraki when Tropical Cyclone Gene made landfall just over the area this morning.
DISMAC Officer Rakiraki confirms that the FSC Mill road, Waimari settlement and Nagoro flats are still under about two feet of flood waters.
He confirmed that four families from Qelema settlement had to move to relatives homes in Wairuku to take shelter as they did not feel safe in their homes when Cyclone Gene passed over the area.
DISMAC said they cannot establish at this stage which other areas in Rakiraki are under flood waters and are waiting for daybreak to go out and assess the situation.
Meawhile Police confirm that strong winds and heavy rain is still being experienced in Ba, Tavua, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka and along the coral coast. There are no reports of flooding from these areas as yet.
