A flood alert is in force for low lying areas adjacent to and downstream of Navolau River.

Rakiraki Police station officer, Arvind Anand said those people who were taking shelter at evacuation centres last night are now returning to their homes as flood waters in most parts of Rakiraki has receded. 

However, there is still two feet of water on the FSC road which is receding.

A heavy rain warning is now in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group and is now cancelled for the rest of Fiji.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for land areas of Viti Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lomaiviti and Southern Lau group.

The Nadi Meteorological service says an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies over Fiji and is gradually moving eastwards. 

It is expected to affect the group till later today. 

Meanwhile, the Director for the National Disaster Management Office, Manasa Tagicakibau confirms that three evacuation centres were activated in Rakiraki last night to take care of the passengers who were stranded because of flood waters.
