The Department of Tourism is currently liaising with the Prime Minister’s Office on the possibility of constructing temporary floating platforms to cater for cruise ships in the Yasawa's.

Acting Director Tourism Manoa Malani said at the moment cruise liners coming into Fiji are unable to stop in the Yasawa's and people were missing out on this tourism income.

Malani said there is a need for a jetty in the islands because the one that the Island has at the moment is damaged.

Meanwhile, Malani said Yasawa Island is an island model in which the Ministry of Tourism is working on, with regards to synergy of the integration of the cruise ship and the Native Land Trust Board lease issue.

He said Yasawa is one of the regions where tourism is developing whereby they have small and medium enterprises and backpackers and their mode of transport is through daily ferries which usually depart Nadi.
