A flash flood warning for low lying areas is in place.

The Nadi Weather Office said a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain to the North is gradually drifting south and is expected to affect the Northern parts of the group.

For the rest of the Fiji group it should cloudy cover increasing with rain and thunderstorms developing later today and then gradually increasing.

Meanwhile, as the cyclone season begins today the Nadi Weather Office has predicted eight tropical cyclones to be formed in the Pacific Ocean.

Weather Forecasters say one or two cyclones are expected to hit Fiji and if more cyclones are formed near Solomons the in-direct effects will be felt in Fiji like strong winds and periods of rain.

This is La Nina season where, few lesser cyclones are expected to be formed in the region whereas in the El Nino season more cyclones are expected.
