Our News Director Vijay Narayan, currently in Nakavu with this report.
Meanwhile, the flash floods has had a devastating impact on the tourism industry with many workers told to stay home until March, as occupancy levels at many hotels have dwindled to around 7 percent.
Vijay Narayan said he spoke to Air Pacific CEO, John Campbell and Tourism Fiji Chief Executive, Josaia Tuimoto, the Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association and the Society of Fiji Travel Associates and they have confirmed that the necessary infrastructure, facilities and equipments to upgrade Fiji's tourism image has been largely unaffected by the recent flooding, with only minor damage reported by member hotels, resorts, transports transfers and cruise operators and domestic and international airlines.
Narayan adds the Industry is united in its efforts adding they are working hard to see that they reassure visitors considering travelling to Fiji to take advantage of Fiji's tropical climate, excellent beach and its warm and friendly people.
Narayan said one of the ways to help the people in Nadi is to ensure that people keep coming to Fiji to ensure that occupancy rates go up again.
