The Nadi Weather Office has advised people living in the low lying areas around the country to take precautions as there is a possibility of flash flooding later today.

Duty forecasters confirm a low pressure system associated with a tropical depression is now lying over the western part of the group which is slowly moving south south east.

According to forecasters, there is a low possibility of the tropical depression developing into a tropical cyclone as it is weakening and moving away from the group.

However, occasional heavy rain is expected for the western, southern, eastern and northern parts of the main islands which could cause flash flooding.

A strong wind warning is now in force for all Fiji waters and mariners have been advised not to go out to sea.
