The Nadi Weather Office is calling on people living in the low lying areas to take extra precautions as a flash flood warning still remains in force.

The weather forecaster has confirmed that a trough of low pressure still lies in the Fiji group and it bring with it heavy rainfall.

Police have again warned members of the public not to cross flooded rivers and streams.

This comes after a 61 year old man of Nakobo settlement, Cakaudrove, died after he was swept away by strong currents when he tried to cross the heavily flooded Vunisavisavi River while returning home after drinking grog yesterday.

His body was later discovered three kilometres away from the place where he tried to cross the river.

The drowning toll is now 16 compared to 19 for the same period last year.
